Market application of EGDA

Performance characteristics

Good solubility: Ethylene glycol diacetate is an excellent organic solvent. It has good solubility for many organic compounds, such as resins, oils, cellulose derivatives, etc. This is because the ester group in its molecular structure has a certain polarity and can interact with a variety of polar and non-polar organic substances to achieve a dissolution effect. For example, in the coating industry, it can effectively dissolve acrylic resins, alkyd resins, etc., so that the coating components are evenly mixed.
Moderate volatility: It has relatively moderate volatility, with a boiling point of about 190-191℃. This feature allows it to evaporate and dry in an appropriate time during the application process, and will not cause construction difficulties or quality problems due to excessive evaporation. For example, in ink printing, it can evaporate quickly after printing, allowing the ink to dry and solidify, while maintaining appropriate fluidity during the printing process.
Good chemical stability: At room temperature, ethylene glycol diacetate exhibits good chemical stability to most chemicals. It is not easy to react chemically with metals, so it can also exist stably in some products containing metal packaging materials. However, under strong acid or alkali conditions, the ester bond will undergo hydrolysis to produce ethylene glycol and acetic acid. This hydrolysis reaction characteristic can also be used in some specific chemical treatment processes.
Low toxicity: Compared with some other organic solvents, ethylene glycol diacetate has lower toxicity. This makes it have certain advantages in many applications with high safety requirements, such as food packaging printing, pharmaceutical packaging material printing, etc. However, it is still necessary to follow safe operating procedures during use to avoid long-term contact and inhalation of high concentrations of steam.

Application areas

Paint industry: used to improve the quality of wood paint, so that the paint can better penetrate the wood texture, enhance adhesion, and make the coating smoother and fuller, improving the beauty and protective performance of wood. Improve the leveling of metal coatings, ensure that the coating is evenly spread on the metal surface, prevent defects such as flow marks and shrinkage holes, and adjust the drying speed to form a high-quality coating to protect the metal. As a solvent in building exterior wall coatings and interior wall coatings, it helps to evenly mix the coating components and improve the construction performance and decorative effect of the coating.
Ink industry: In gravure printing ink and flexographic printing ink, it is used to adjust the viscosity and drying speed of the ink. In gravure printing, it can ensure that the ink is smoothly transferred from the gravure cylinder to the printing material (such as plastic film, paper, etc.) and dries quickly after printing; in flexographic printing, it makes the ink have good transfer performance on the flexible plate, and can dry quickly after printing on the material, improving printing efficiency and quality.
Chemical synthesis field: It is used as an intermediate to synthesize other chemicals. For example, it can undergo ester exchange reaction with some compounds containing hydroxyl or carboxyl groups to generate new ester compounds. These new ester compounds may have special properties. For example, in polyester synthesis, ethylene glycol diacetate can be used as one of the raw materials to generate polyester materials with different segment structures and properties through reaction, which are used to produce engineering plastics, fibers and other products.
Electronic industry application: It is used to clean oil, dust and organic pollutants on the surface of electronic components. Due to its good solubility and volatility, it can dry quickly after cleaning and will not leave residue on the surface of the component, thereby ensuring the performance and reliability of the electronic components. In the preparation and application of photoresist, as a solvent, photoresist is evenly dispersed and coated on substrates such as silicon wafers, which is very critical for microelectronic manufacturing processes such as integrated circuits.

Application

As a solvent: In many formulations, EGDA can be used directly as a solvent. For example, in the coating industry, it is directly mixed with resins, pigments, etc. For some situations where acrylic resins or polyester resins need to be dissolved, EGDA is added to the resin in an appropriate ratio (such as resin: EGDA = 1:0.5-1:2, etc., the specific ratio is adjusted according to factors such as the type of resin and the required viscosity) and fully dissolved under stirring conditions to form a uniform coating solution. This coating solution can be used for coating various substrates, such as metal, wood, plastic, etc.
As a diluent: In the field of adhesives, when the viscosity of the adhesive (such as epoxy resin adhesive, polyurethane adhesive) is high, EGDA can be directly added to reduce the viscosity. Generally, a small amount of adhesive can be tested first to determine the appropriate amount to be added. Usually the amount of EGDA added is about 10% – 30% of the total amount of adhesive, making the adhesive easier to apply and construct, especially suitable for occasions that require delicate operations, such as the bonding of electronic components.
